LES NOUVELLES
ESTHETIQUES SOUTH AFRICAN SPA AWARDS 2006
Spas… the word that was once a whisper, is now the word and
experience that people cannot be with out. Many thought that it was
a passing trend, but they have been proved wrong… spas are anything
but a fad they are a lifestyle and a vital element to finding
balance and relaxation within our lives.
Spas are the source of finding a sense of well-being. They are a
sanctuary where one can escape and a place to unwind. They allow us
to renew our body, mind and soul, and although society generally has
moved away from embracing recreational time, we are finally coming
full circle and embracing this time to revive and de-stress. The
phenomenal growth in the Spa sector in South Africa is symbolic to
this, thus the Les Nouvelles Esthetiques Sanitas Per Aquas (S.P.A)
Awards was established to honour this flourishing market and those
who excel in their field.
The second Les Nouvelles Esthetiques Spa Awards was hosted by
Les Nouvelles Esthetiques South Africa in association with Les
Nouvelles Esthetiques Paris, on Sunday the 25th of June 2006, at The
Indaba Hotel in Fourways, Johannesburg. The Les Nouvelles
Esthetiques Spa Awards Gala Dinner evening was filled with
excitement and glamour as some of the industries most respected and
well-known names came together to acknowledge their peers.
Through the success of the 2005 awards, the Les Nouvelles
Esthetiques Spa Awards have shown tremendous growth. The 2006 Spa
Awards consisted of four (4) Categories, with the introduction of
the Safari Spa and Unique Spa Concept Categories. In addition to the
Day Spa and Resort/Hotel Spa Categories (including Country Hotels,
Guest Houses and Resorts).
“The Spa sector has grown in multiple facets. In order to meet the
demands of the ever-growing market, Les Nouvelles Esthetiques
introduced two new categories to the Spa Awards. This was to ensure
further calibration and refinement in the categories and definitions
of the awards, where similar institutions are compared with one
another. Ultimately providing the spa client with a greater
understanding of what to expect” says Dr Nadine de Freitas, Managing
Editor, Les Nouvelles Esthetiques S.A.
The Les Nouvelles Esthetiques Day Spa Category Finalists were
Octavia’s Sensorium, Casa Mia Health Spa, s.k.i.n Wellness Spa – V &
A Waterfront and BSXI Hydro Spa. The winner of the Day Spa Category
was Life Day Spa.
Angsana Spa at The Vineyard Hotel
was announced as the winner
of the Unique Spa Concept Category.
The judging of the Unique Spa Concept Category was extremely
close in which a tie in results occurred, therefore the finalists in
this category included Woodlands Wellness Centre at Forum Homini
Boutique Hotel, Spa Ilâhi, Mangwanani African Day Spa, Ingwenya
African Spa and Indigo Fields African Day Spa.
The finalists for the Safari Spa Category were Witwater Spa at
Witwater Safari Lodge and Camelot Spa at Pestana Kruger Lodge; the
Wellness Centre at Thanda Private Game
Reserve was selected as the winner of the Safari Spa
Category.
The Resort/Hotel Spa Category included some magnificent resorts,
where the finalists included Kievits Kroon Country Estate & Spa,
Camelot Spa at Le Franschhoek Hotel, Fordoun, and Sanctuary Spa at
The Twelve Apostles Hotel. The winner of the Resort/Hotel Spa
Category was AltiraSpa at the Arabella
Sheraton Grand Hotel.
Les Nouvelles Esthetiques would like to congratulate all the
finalists and winners as they continue to excel in providing the
South African community with the keys to relaxation and wellness.
The Spa Awards programme is more than pure recognition of
achievement, it sets a benchmark for spas in South Africa, and all
the finalists and winners are worthy of this acknowledgment.
Spa Recognition Awards 2006
“We focus a large amount on the actual spas, however there are a
number of individuals who go above the call of duty, who stand out
from the crowd and through their work the entire industry benefits”,
said Dr Nadine de Freitas as she introduced the Les Nouvelles
Esthetiques the inaugural Spa Recognition Awards at the Gala Dinner
Event. These Spa Recognition Awards include three categories, The
Spa Ambassador Award, The Humanitarian Award and The Spa Visionary
Award. These will form part of the annual Les Nouvelles Esthetiques
Spa Awards.
The Spa Ambassador Award, symbolises a person who represents the
industry, in a thank less capacity. The award goes to a person who
has made the industry proud and whose presence in the industry is
noted internationally. The nominees for this award were Mimmie
Cronje from Algologie, Alison Rightford from the Sanctuary group, Dr
Geraldine Mitton from Santé Winelands Hotel & Wellness Centre, and
Debbie Merdjan from Camelot Schools and Spas. The Spa Ambassador
Award 2006 was awarded to Debbie Merdjan. The Spa Humanitarian
Award, is awarded to a person who by definition is actively
concerned in promoting human welfare and especially social reform.
The 2006 award was awarded to Erin Limbert, from Mangwanani African
Day Spa. The third award was the Spa Visionary Award 2006, which was
awarded to Karlien Murray from Professional Accreditation Body.
We look forward to hosting the Spa Awards in 2007 and Spa
Recognition Awards 2007, as South African Spas and individuals
continue to flourish in an internationally growing market place.
