Your clients will almost certainly find themselves yielding to
temptation. They will come to you seeking your assistance in
transforming their look. Help them to choose new colours and
products that will create a sublime effect and liberate their most
daring fantasies. This year it is up to you to metamorphose
clients into irresistibly feminine and mysterious creatures.
LET THE LIGHT SHINE!
The new light-effects make-up of the season light up the
complexion and leave skin looking exquisitely radiant. Even the
darkest complexions will be illuminated without looking harsh.
Textures are subtly shiny, metallic, suffused with glowing
luminosity and a haze of light. Pearly, shimmering, iridescent,
sparkling, glimmering make-up has never been more in fashion.
Products used on the face, eyes, lips and nails harmonise with one
another, with each colour superimposed over the next, creating
contrasts and highlights.
A GAME OF CONTRASTS AND SHIMMERING REFLECTIONS
Now is the time to make the most of chiaroscuro effects where
light and dark come together, creating contrast and harmony,
giving birth to an electric magic. The power of contrast is
conveyed by this game between shadow and illumination.
Excel yourself in the art of contrast. Revel in the creation of
reflections that are frosted, icy, iridescent, wet-look, metallic,
pearly, sparkling, shimmering… ever changing, unexpected and
infinitely seductive.
A WHIRLWIND OF PEARLY HUES
Colours virtually leap out of their packaging to unleash a
whirlwind of pearly shades that vibrate under the light.
Thanks to the iridescent, glistening, metallic reflections of
these pearly colours, make-up comes to life. They change colour
with the face’s movements and in response to the light.
OVERLAYING AND SHADING
Textures work together, overlapping and blending together to
create a infinite number of combinations in the blink of an eye.
With make-up, you have two types of products: functional (to
address the basic dimensions of the face) or daring (to make it
come to life with light and colour).
• Functional products: the subtle tones and natural, blending
colours of these products allow you to sculpt the dimensions of
the face and infuse it with light.
• Daring products: these produce strong, iridescent contrasts,
which highlight the outstanding features of the face.
MAKE-UP TO TAKE YOU FROM MIDDAY TO MIDNIGHT
The light-effects make-up for Winter 2004 can be worn at midnight
– to add sparkle to your evening, or midday – to add an element of
mystery to your day.
It can be worn anytime but will constantly reveal a new and
different facet. It is a bit like a picture of a city where the
interplay of light at night time and daytime constantly changes
one’s perspective.
COLOUR FLAUNTS ITSELF!
The palette of colours this year is unlimited: you will find
shades that are faded and subdued, colours from opposite ends of
the spectrum from pink to black, deep, intense shades as well as
the most delicate hues, the warm shades of Winter, plenty of greys,
splashes of mauve and violet, fiery, passionate shades… the only
thing they have in common is that they all have a pearly sheen!
A FLAWLESS COMPLEXION
The complexion must be faultless. In other words, it should appear
translucent, natural and without blemish. First and foremost you
should even out skin tone using colour correctors thus creating a
flawless backdrop. With the assistance of corrective make-up,
including a foundation cream and powder to fix the colour,
camouflage blemishes and imperfections as well as deep lines or
wrinkles, using a brush for precision. Then apply translucent
powder to set the contours of your make-up without highlighting
wrinkles.
Give skin a radiant look with a beige or pinkish foundation that
is light and transparent.
Reduce shine in the T-zone area by lightly dusting with some loose
powder but do not apply to the cheeks – leave them to retain their
natural glow. You could also opt for a luminous, pearlescent
powder which gives skin a beautiful radiance and leaves it looking
resplendent. Add to this luminescence by enhancing the cheeks with
blusher. Lit up with a pearly glow, the blush creates a stunning
effect which breathes life into the complexion, instantly giving
skin the appearance of good health.
Choose a pink, mauve or brown blush… as long as it is pearly.
Apply generously to the cheekbones, from the outside inwards.
And voilà, you have a flawless complexion: translucent, natural
and radiant, the perfect backdrop for eyes and lips that make an
impact.
IRIDESCENT EYES SHIMMER WITH COLOUR
Emphasise the eyes.
Cloaked in iridescent reflections, shimmering light, and the
sparkle of precious stones, eyes appear larger than life with
strong colours and heavy definition. In short, the effect to aim
for is one of depth, mystery and allure.
Exercise great care when selecting your eye shadows:
• First, choose a colour scheme. This season, eyes are adorned in
bewitching colours: lots of mauve, plum, violet, purple… beautiful
greys, golds, bronzes, coppers, beiges and pinks…
• Next, choose your textures: frosted, shiny, iridescent, pearly,
metallic, sparkling…
• Decide on the effects you wish to create: smoky, sparkling,
lustrous, intense, ethereal or eye-catching, by increasing or
decreasing the contrasts… there is only one imperative this season
– nothing should look flat or constant, everything should be in a
shimmering state of flux. That is what sets this season’s look
apart.
• Choose your mode of application for your eye shadow: wet or dry.
Applied dry to the eyelids you will creates a halo effect -
translucent, powdery, gentle. Applied damp, the shadows on the
eyes result in a look that is truly spectacular and sophisticated.
But make sure, whether you have chosen a dry or a wet look, that
you don’t leave lines or streaks. Blend your eye shadow in to
create a layered halo effect.
• Select your application technique: brush or finger. If you opt
for the latter, use the fingertips to apply eye shadow to the
eyelids along the eyelashes. Use a gentle back and forth motion,
starting at the inside corner of the eye and working outwards.
Extend the eye shadow towards the arch of the eyebrow still using
a back and forth motion to cover the eyelid.
